Knowledge Graphs: Reading the Media to Predict the Stock Market
June 30, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT
“Research on stock market prediction is a key focus area in the financial industry. With the recent advances in the areas of big data, machine learning and natural language processing (NLP), practitioners increasingly incorporate unstructured text data from sources such as financial reports, general or financial news, message boards, and online social media into the analysis of financial markets. There is a growing amount of research highlighting the advantage of analyzing financial news, sentiment and event-based information for improved stock price prediction. However, the main drawback of these type of information is that they do not sufficiently capture the connections and relations between different objects, such as the operations of companies, economic scenarios, events and public opinions towards companies, which are crucial for market predictions. Hence, we would like to incorporate Knowledge Graphs, which are a cutting edge and valuable technique for financial forecasting tasks and stand to improve the strategies in the investment management industry.”
